My auxiliary fan on my 1987 Mercedes 300E is not operating unless I use a jumper. Where do I start?

Are you positive it's supposed to be on when the main fan is on? Many cars use an aux fan only above certain temps and also when the A/C is turned on. If you're positive it's not turning on at the correct temperature, than it's most likely a fan switch;
