Where is the thermostat located on a 470 mercruiser engine?

its a 1979. The obvious spot on front of the engine is not it.

It's located on the front of the exhaust manifold, under the reservoir. Here is a link to the schematic. Scroll down until you you find your year and motor, and look at the exhaust manifold.
